22.10.12 - Post-it Notes

As part of the planning process an activity used was the post-it notes. From the lyric mood board I was able to develop more of the details for my music video. From the combination between the lyric mood board as well as the post-it notes I was able to categories the details into 6 columns. The picture below is of the finished results:

18.10.12 - The Pitch

In today's lesson we each individually pitched our ideas to each other. In this activity I had to create a pitch summing up all my ideas so far and the possible themes or motifs that would be featured in the music video. Here is the speech I made in my pitch:

My song is called: 'I Could Have Been The One', in the music video the artist will be featured as the female protagonist. The genre of the music video will be narrative with areas of lip syncing to incorporate Goodwin's theory. As my artist is an up and coming artist I will use multiple close ups from a range of angles to allow the audience to create a stronger relationship with the artist. The narrative will begin with an equilibrium followed by a disequilibrium which will start at the lyric: 'It's been great but it's not working out.' I will emphasise the disequilibrium through the slow motion extreme close up of the protagonist and her lover breaking up. I will use non-diegetic music (the song itself) and remove all diegetic sound effects to allow the portrayal of the romantic genre to be correctly characterized.

There will be a second equilibrium towards the end of the music video as the artist walks away from the camera, indicating that she has gotten over the boy, and it's his loss that he broke up with her.

I would like to use a motif of some form however I am not completely sure what form of motif I would like to use - possibly a flower of some form.

The song that I have chosen is very emotive and romantic, therefore the editing between scenes will be slow tempo. However I would like to create a contrast between the different tempo of editing by having a montage of happier times through having many romantic dates between the protagonist and the lover. During these dates the motif will be featured, if I was to use a flower, each time there is a date a petal would be removed to as a symbolism of their love fading; although this is cliche I think that it depicts the characteristics of the romantic genre.

The music video will use many locations - to show different dates. Some of the locations I would like to use are: a bedroom, field (open greenery area), restaurant. I am still to confirm some of the locations. As I would like to show multiple dates between the couple the mise-en-scene is important in the music video to make it convincing, therefore there will be a range of costume changes. To show the difference between past and present I will choose a colour theme for the past and another colour theme for the present. The past theme will be a lot paler using colours such as: cream, grey, beige etc. The male character will possibly be wearing black as he is a symbolism of all male people.

16.10.12 - Peer Feedback

In class we gave each other peer feedback on a mindmap. In turn we each listened to each others songs and were able to given written feedback on possible ideas on: texture, colours, shots, storyline, possible scenes etc.

Peer ideas from listening to the song
My initial ideas and opinion of what the music video could be
From the peer feedback I have been able to finalise some ideas for the music video, also it was nice to read that many of my peers were thinking along the same lines as I was, however have given more specific details in what I could do.

One of the ideas was to show the contrast between the relationship of boy and girl, this is the main concept of the music video, showing the process of the artists relationship with a guy, however I think that the idea to emphasise the different between past and present through the editing technique of grey scale is a good idea, it would be nice to possibly learn how to do that on Final Cut Express but also to introduce another theme/ motif or moral - illustrating that relationships are not just black and white, but many shades of grey.
Another idea that I liked was looking through old photos; I would like to develop this through possibly making the images come to life (such as is used in Cher Lloyd - Want U Back).
From the peer feedback I have been able to develop my initial ideas and I am now a step closer to creating my Final Storyboard. Also from the feedback I have been able to select possible motifs that could be featured in the music video such as: cliché rose, love hearts.

12.10.12 - Target Audience Profile

During the planning the filming for the music video, I have to consider the target audience so that the music video is suitable for the target audience. From discussing with the artist her influences and her opinion of the target audience I was able to create a mind-map of ideas that the typical target audience member would be like.
From creating a mind-map of what the target audience member would be like I have been able to decide what is suitable for the music video and been able to make more decisions on the content of the music video.

Booked Equipment

2.10.12 - Lyric Mood Board

For the Advanced Media Portfolio Task I have found an artist called Corrina Suri who has written a song called: 'I Could Have Been The One'. Once I was given permission to use her song and to have her featured in the video itself I was able to listen to the song and copy down the lyrics. Above is the first mood board of my initial ideas. I have received feedback on my initial mood board ideas and from this I have decided I would like to have a metaphor of some kind - because the song talks about a broken relationship and this creates the idea of freedom, stereotypically this is signified by a flying bird or a butterfly.

From my initial ideas I have created a montage of images, this will serve as a mood board for inspiration.
